(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") Woven in the rugged mountains of fabled Northwest Persia before 1910, Serapi carpets are a distinct Heriz region style, with finer knotting and more large-scale, spaciously placed designs when compared to their younger cousins. This early, art-level Persian Serapi represents a bold, stunning, finely articulated departure from the niched medallion and corner piece format of this style's signature pattern. A mesmerizing collection of abstracted palmettes, garlands, vinery, and blossoms fills the undyed ivory field with bold elemental renderings that demonstrate an intuitive aesthetic sensitivity. Exotic colors are tremendously enhanced by an adept outlining technique with riveting contrasts and illuminating abrash color fluctuations. Do not be fooled into thinking the pattern is a symmetric reflection of itself, as numerous variations brought about spontaneously during its construction animate the pattern. Filling the role of both the radical or conservative depending on the room, this stately Serapi remains in fantastic condition after a century and a half since its inspired origins.
