(High-Collectible-Plus) ("New Arrivals Gallery") This over 150-year-old Serapi carpet is an elemental masterpiece. Its creation was supported by a culture in Northwest Persia that valued the spontaneous creative impulse, though still within the recognizable tradition of design in the region. This phenomenal carpet is a Village folk-art version of center medallion format carpets one might expect from Towns and Cities. A one-in-the-world medallion is like a portal to a mysterious dimension, protected by a lotus flower centerpiece and vertical Venetian red vinery. Dextrous shifts in scale between lyrical motifs in the ivory reserve and exceptionally rare border pattern heighten the viewer's rapt attention, frustrating any trace of tedium. Infused with stirring, extremely fine gradations of evocative abrash, the richly dyed color palette has mellowed over time as intended, heightening every hue to its maximum potential. This incredibly majestic rug's remarkable appeal is further enhanced by its fine weave and remarkable condition with mostly heavier pile.
