(High-Collectible-Plus) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) Persian garden compartment carpets emerged as early as the 17th century, symbolizing paradise with intricate layouts of water channels, flowerbeds, and trees, reflecting concepts of order and divine beauty. They allowed patrons to create an empyrean illusion in their homes, bringing nature and luxury indoors. The field of this awe-inspiring oversize carpet is divided into four quadrants by two intersecting ivory channels with ruby-red lozenges, which enclose an inner ivory medallion-like miniature field designs melded together. Each section is divided into rectangles, each a mini-rug unto itself, depicting scenes of finely etched flower-filled vases, and eleven distinctive “Tree of Life” designs. The painstaking concentration and dextrous skill required to execute such a virtuoso masterwork are mind-boggling! Silk threads used for the foundation facilitate extraordinary fineness of weave and detail, while the colorful base tones, including ruby-red, midnight blue, ivory, and French blue, serve as exquisite backdrops for the spectacular compartments. The glowing midnight forest featured in the main border adds an extra layer of wonder and vitality.
