(Connoisseur-Caliber)
("Featured in our new print catalog")Among all classifications of Oriental rugs, the formal Persian floral weaving tradition can claim the most extensive exploration of the “Garden of Paradise” theme. Each classical weaving center developed its signature hues and motifs to create paradisiacal visions that would transport a viewer. With its color combinations of burgundy, sky pink, lapis lazuli, and celadon blues, the Tehran style imagined the most charming of scenes. This rug’s fine weave has provided tremendously rich and varied levels of detail while retaining exceptional painterly balance and visual harmony. This 120-year-old piece departs from the traditional view of the main entrance to a garden and its dense portrayal of trees, blossoms, birds and forest animals. In this piece, the archway seems more like a side window framing several splendid boughs and the avian activity therein. Twin fluted columns support an archway covered with baroque vinery in shimmering cerulean tones. A proud family of deer with joyful expressions relaxes in the meadow near a blossoming pond while being eyed by local waterfowl. The level of detail in the color and shape of the fowl-laden floral scene is equally imaginative and prolific. Nearly immaculate pile spotlights the dexterous degree of gradients in a palette of numerous expertly brewed shades.
