(Connoisseur-Caliber)
("New Arrivals Gallery") Tremendously balanced with meticulous attention to detail and color work, this fascinating piece is the product of a highly dexterous, deeply inspired weaver at the top of her game. Standing tall behind a robust rose bush that houses a cleverly camouflaged “chameleon” bird, a flowering Tree of Life is miraculously laden with a diversity of species, ultimately blooming from the same root system. Every element of the composition is clearly defined on a lightly textured parchment ground. Upon closer inspection, what first appears like additional roses higher in the boughs are actually a pair of nesting birds. Tehran's signature garnet red leads the hierarchy of scintillating colors in this rug, enhanced by burnished bronze, fuchsia, pale marigold, lagoon green, and veins of lapis blue. The border is an extremely successful avant-garde version of the popular Shah Abbas design with botanical ornamentations that gently melt before the eye and sparkle like stained glass. Treasured for well over a century, this magical rug remains in exceptionally good pile condition.
