A latecomer to Persian styles, Sultanabad weaving benefited from the "intellectual property" of weavers and designers from the nearby town of Ferahan combined with venture capital from the German company’s access to English connections in Persia. A tremendously unusual rosy baroque medallion is the nucleus supporting crown pendants, giant carnations, and the feathery fronds graciously curving to and fro, shaping the ample space provided by the ultra finely striated ivory reserve. Each luxuriant corner spandrel based in midnight cobalt offers partial glimpses of flame-like palmettes and a single tulip. A field composition of such immense scale is heightened by the border suite, alternating between the minuscule and mid-range in proportion like a perfect picture frame.
