(Connoisseur-Caliber)
("New Arrivals Gallery")This early enchanting south Persian tribal rug captures the distinctive ambiance of this style, a rather light-hearted artistic expression from a very long-lived nomadic peoples. The Afshar originated as a tribe in 8th century Turkmenistan, moved to Azerbaijan, then Khorasan, and finally the Fars province in south Persia, and who along the way contributed to the Safavid kings’ Empire building and a son who established the Persian Qajar dynasty in the 19th century. This little gem’s overall “butterfly” pattern and the age-softened yet effervescent palette is particularly playful, its drawing in both the field and border naive and spontaneous. With its moderate pile at over 150 years old, it will bring joy to a lighter to medium trafficked part of the home.
