(Connoisseur-Caliber) This is a splendid example of the famed rug-making of the Afshar tribe during the 19th century. Presenting one of the traditional field formats of interlocking diamonds, this antique rug’s forthright simplicity and spaciousness of design communicate the confident hand of an extremely dexterous weaver. Its wool is unusually lustrous and its high pile belies its 150 years of age. Its ingenious center motif of a four-directions cross holding a deconstructed butterfly at the hub, repeated within all the diamonds, is a highly original combination of traditional designs. Its niched “fence design” main border with its riveting sapphire blue continues the tribal character of this antique Persian carpet. Learn About This Rug Type
