FERAHAN SAROUK, West Central Persian
4' 2" x 6' 4"
3rd Quarter, 19th Century
(Connoisseur-Caliber) (Featured in catalog Vol. 29, No. 1, p.11) This utterly finely woven, magnificent 19th-century Ferahan Sarouk rug is extraordinarily unique for its style. Distinguishing it is a particularly inventive use of scale and spaciousness in its design and an original, harmonious palette. Its floating elliptical medallion is exquisite amid the field of naturalistic dangling blossoms and vinery, its botanical forms seemingly bursting from the spandrels. Of special note is the exquisitely time-softened, expertly abrashed terracotta that fills this piece’s shield-shaped reserve with continual shifts of intensity. Learn About This Rug Type
