(High-Decorative) The luminous, time-matured palette of this 9ft x 13-1/2ft Persian village carpet marvelously demonstrates the central role that the use of pure natural dyes plays in the allure of fine antique carpets. This can be seen most vividly in its wealth of difficult-to-dye green tones, from celadon to asparagus and avocado that provide definition throughout the carpet. Great drama is created through its elongated, multi-lobed center medallion outlined in a serpentine vinery that rests on a shimmering, unadorned, Chinese red ground. Its four corner spandrels effectively mirror the design and colors of the medallion, while an elaborate chain of Shah Abassi ornaments in its main border provides a quiet, rhythmical frame to the great drama within.
