(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") Inspired by the ancient Safavid court traditions, the design of this Tabriz features a golden central medallion that bears an intricate spoked roundel arrangement of delicately etched blossoms. Half-medallions at the top and bottom imply the pattern continues beyond. Scrolling arabesques in vibrant cornflower blue complement the orb-shaped medallions, and countless diminutive florets densely populate the soft terra cotta field, conveying the idea of an abundant garden. The highly detailed and exquisitely etched composition and the sophisticated, earthy color palette convey the epitome of refinement and elegance. The Safavid era (1501-1736) marked the Golden Age of Persian carpet design, when court-sponsored weaving elevated rug production to the level of a high art. Tabriz was one of the major rug-weaving centers of that early period. A Connoisseur-Caliber 19th-century Persian Tabriz rug such as this alluring piece is highly prized as among the era's most sophisticated and technically advanced weavings.
