("New Arrivals Gallery") Totemic whimsy and austere spaciousness unite to make this innovative nomad rug come to life. A series of winged, almost figural motifs ascend the field, set in motion with graceful paddle-esque appendages. Anchor-like runes adorn spiky flame-shaped flowerheads with square emblems like flag semaphores that align vertically on either side of the field as spontaneously placed devices starting around the halfway point. It would seem that all of the tremendously creative designs found here lend to the imaginary nautical theme of this surprising and unique runner. These striking graphics are further enlivened by the dramatic natural striation of the camelhair-based ground, infusing this piece with a layered dimensional effect. An improvised chryselephantine Greek key or “wave" border amplifies the immense charm of this unaffected work of folk art.
