("New Arrivals Gallery") Ever-popular among our clients, the distinctive pattern of the rugs from the Northwest Persian village of Karaja is a center sunburst medallion accompanied by cruciform mandalas. At over six score years of age, this exemplary ambassador of this time-honored format delivers precision geometry alongside organic contours in a sparkling array of joyful forms against a midnight cobalt background. The visually superb ornamentation is boldly defined by deeply saturated hues of deep jungle green, carnelian red, gold, and vivid coral hues highlighted by ivory and delicate celadon. The robust design is wonderfully counterbalanced by the playful and freeform quality of the vinery-linked “winged” palmette and blossom head border that surrounds it. This village rug’s overall luminosity is amplified by the deluxe heavier pile composed of superior-grade mountain sheep’s wool, which would also provide a pleasurable tactility underfoot.
