("New Arrivals Gallery") This superb antique Persian Serab exudes the craftsmanship and refined rustic style that carpets from the Serab region occasionally achieved in the 19th century. An ethereal ’Tree of Life’ latticework fills the field via a technique native to this area. It presents a pairing of mocha-hued camelhair and undyed sheep’s wool to create the most delicate of contrasts, giving it an almost damask fabric effect. Floating on this pattern is a proportionally undersized stepped diamond medallion featuring a modified 'Herati' design of rosette-centered diamonds, curved leaves (sometimes called koi for resembling the fish), and spiky blossoms facing horizontally and vertically. It is repeated in triangular corner spandrels in luminous colors of rosy copper, azure, leaf, moss, jade greens, walnut, and burnished gold. The natural luminosity of a pure, unadorned camelhair outer margin adds a soft warmth, enhancing the overall allure. At over 130 years old, this village carpet is in very good condition, making it both practical as well as an aesthetic solution for a larger room.
