This eminently high-collectible jewel from the Arab sub-tribe of the South Persian Khamseh Confederation expresses an unreserved animation of its single weaver-dyer, brilliantly executing the difficult large medallion format of her tribe's signature design. A balanced, yet organically drawn lobed medallion is bursting with resplendent, overscale blossoms. No less compelling is the spacious, abashed main border. with a fancifully rendered “fence” pattern. What seems to be a riot of color is actually a precisely measured and combined palette of earthy tonalities and radiant blues, illumined by a superior grade of lustrous wool. In exceptional condition at well over one and one half centuries of age, this intensely personal 19th century antique rug exemplifies the very best artistry and craftsmanship from this tradition.
