(High-Collectible +) ("The California Collection") It is almost unfathomable to discover a rug of such antiquity and subdued virtuoso artistry that is still in fantastic condition relative to its extremely substantial age — but that is exactly what we have here, and it is only possible through such long-held collections such as this. Antique Ghirodes pieces such as this from Anatolia occupy an even rarer position on the market than other types from Turkey. In the field, three fiery carnelian compartments are unadorned except for minuscule sprouting flowers and a midnight blue lantern hanging in the center. Abstract botanical themes are energetically depicted based on crocuses, oak leaves, and other blossoms. Cloudlike cartouches occupy the primary border, adding to the overall ancient aesthetic of this precious artifact. Fantastic earth tones are configured to interplay in almost mind-altering ways and are exceptionally successful in their awe-inspiring textures. The immense amount of time required to complete this venerable piece is a testament to the skill and dedication required. The wool employed by weavers in this region is known for its durability, softness, and ability to hold dyes, contributing to its incredible longevity.
