TABRIZ
7' 3" x 11' 5" (221 x 348cm) Circa 1875
(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") With the utmost refinement, a garden of paradise is depicted with graceful floral arabesques and intricate botanica arranged around a central rosette orbited by six elaborate blossoms in this impressive Tabriz carpet. They are renowned for their fine weave, which results in chiseled clarity and fantastically intricate designs. Every square inch of the firmament is filled with floral sprays in a cascade of sizes, creating an organic display of abundance. The soft terra cotta ground color is perfectly complemented by the seldom-seen brilliant azure-blue main border, filled with elegant renderings of the graceful Shah Abbas palmette. The harmonious palette also includes vivid crimson, aqua, soft pink, pale jade, and midnight blue. Touches of abrash deftly deployed everywhere add a natural beauty and a priceless human touch to the spellbinding composition. Preserved in immaculate condition at 150 years old, it offers an extremely fine weave and velvety, glossy wool that are a tactile treat and visual delight as its colors play across the surface like stained glass.
