(High-Decorative) Visually entrancing antique Persian Sultanabad carpets in extremely good condition such as this are few and far between. This memorable large room size antique carpet is notable for its rarely found, radiant azure blue base. Sultanabads most often use all-over patterning, but here a graceful ivory medallion and small spandrels offer a relaxed formality, supported by the lovely stylized latticework which fills the field. A warm, secondary palette of naturally dyed rust, persimmon, saffron and leaf green adds to the enjoyment of this carpet. Its exceptionally fine knotting, indicative of Ziegler rugs, enhances the detail work of the field and borders, and gives the rug a glass-like surface.
