A very original, highly stylized serpentine border design is an unusually artful feature of this superbly crafted Bijar (Bidjar) antique carpet. A profusion of prized saffron in the field accompanies rare spruce green in its border, where an abundance of rich, luminous color remains deeply saturated after over a century of age. Bijar (Bidjar) carpets are known among antique Oriental rugs as the “Iron Rugs of Persia”, and the especially heavy pile condition of this strikingly beautiful 19th century runner makes it exceptionally durable.
