This elegant, very early area size Ferahan Sarouk rug replaces the sumptuous red tones, which often characterize this style with a beguiling tea rose, creating a startlingly sublime departure. This one color choice transforms what is often a more vigorous, masculine style into a rug of quiet, feminine ambiance. A rare parchment-toned field adds to this subtlety, providing the neutral backdrop for skillfully wrought, aged teal greens and Prussian blues. A luminous pattern of profuse blossoms and oak leaves in the border is perfectly counterbalanced to the more open pattern language of the interior and, most interestingly, contains totally abstract, geometric rosettes in a checkerboard design—a reminder of the collective memory that retained its elemental past. The result is a one-of-a-kind classical rug that offers an unusually flowing pattern, inspired formatting, exquisite craftsmanship, and mesmerizing sensitivity.
