BAKSHAISH CAMELHAIR
7' 3" x 10' 2" (221 x 310cm) Circa 1875
(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") This charmingly original, 19th-century Persian Bakshaish rug features extremely unique and beautiful artistry. Exemplifying the spirit of the most artful antique village carpets, it offers a mesmerizing field of asymmetrically positioned designs, with frequent, unexpected shifts in both its pattern and colors. The border is based in a seldom encountered, pale aqua hue. In contrast to this incredibly subtle, almost ethereal aqua tone, the abrash of the field is strikingly bold, transitioning dramatically through glowing goldenrod, wheat, and even celadon green hues. Its refreshing clarity of drawing reveals both inspired Persian high-mountain carpet weaving’s fascinating stylization of natural blossom forms and striking sense of scale that invites an enjoyable visual meander. Its condition is wonderful with primarily heavier pile.
