The deeply spirited Southern Persian tribal aesthetic is particularly evident in this joyous, folkloric 19th century Yalameh rug. A subtribe of the nomadic Luris, this intensely personal rug reveals hooked diamonds, boteh, and numerous tribal motifs drawn freehand with enchanting spontaneity. Its creative border suite contains no less than eight unique patterns, each inventive, yet extremely harmonious with the overall design. Broad and balanced, the chromatic palette reflects a dexterous sense of color combining. Note especially the glowing blue tones--from its striking cobalt to crisp periwinkle, teal and azure. This is an endearing, unusually large precsient example from a tribal tradition that remained obscure until a commercially funded project in the middle of the 20th century. Remaining in good condition, it will continue to captivate with each viewing.
