(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") This is a textbook example of an excellent Kazak: it has continual color change, abundant animals, grand tribal medallions and an intoxicating effervescence. Yet, what is most extraordinary in this piece is the brilliant saffron yellow ground especially in combination with the unexpected ivory borders (in lieu of traditional red or blue). This rug's one-of-a-kind color combination contributes greatly to its collectible value. The large knotted pile of the mountainous Kazak region gives it an appealing texture that is perfectly consonant with the rug's origins as a spontaneous folk art weaving. Dating from 1875, it remains in extremely good condition and would make for a joyful daily encounter in a hallway or behind a sofa. Learn About This Rug Type
