(High-Collectible) (“New Acquisition Sampling") The ancient city of Bergama and its surrounds is known to been weaving geometric rugs since at least the 16th century and produced very rustic too much more finely crafted small workshop pieces. This exceptional, 160-year-old carpet is woven in the traditional square shape of the region. The pair of grand medallions are expertly developed on the loom despite their large scale--an impressive technical feat. The main border of intricate geometric interlocking diamonds supply a complex pattern in contrast to the powerful boldness of the field and indicate a weaver working from a general cartoon at best as the turning of border has been dexterously “ad-libbed”.
