(Connoisseur-Caliber) With its glowing palette and brilliant marriage of both elemental and sophisticated design elements, this over one-and-one-centuries-old Bakshaish Persian village carpet demonstrates the artistic virtuosity coupled with delightful elements of surprise for which this famed style is well-known. A time-softened pomegranate field is enlivened by an intricate allover pattern evocative of elaborate tile work, while a beguiling, archetypal border of morning glory blue stands in brilliant counterbalance. Note that in the spirit of Bakshaish's trademark use of unabashed asymmetry, the rosette motifs of the main border are "cut" at the corners. Along with its memorable artistry, the nearly 12 x 15 carpet remains in wonderful condition.
