(High-Collectible) ("New Arrivals Gallery") This is an extraordinarily well-preserved member of a rug group whose very early examples are found primarily in museums. Identified early in its history as a one-in-the-world masterwork, it is in extraordinary, heavier pile condition at two centuries of age. Its varying, exotic blossoms shimmer with a deep patina. Seemingly capturing the overall lushness of the Khotan Oasis where it was made, it provides a striking contrast to the vast desert that surrounded it. Its artistry is subtle, beguiling the viewer who looks deeply. An orderly presentation of flowerheads belies quite expertly mixed groupings, with each pair or row never repeated exactly throughout the length of the rug. Learn About This Rug Type
