MALAYER SAROUK
4' 5" x 6' 6" (135 x 198cm) Late 19th C.
(Connoisseur-Caliber) This area size Persian Malayer woven in the late 1800s is the entirely creative product of its ingenuous weaver. It offers a fanciful allover pattern of vastly overscale flowering tree forms, flowerheads, and vinery. Its border contains a wonderful, stylized rendition of the mythical dragon motif. Its entirely naturally dyed color palette eschews the traditional deep reds in favor of an abundance of more seldom encountered hues, including earthy hues of soft rust, dusty rose, apple green, set against an abundance of ethereal blues. This endlessly fascinating rug remains in wonderful, heavier pile condition with no notable restoration and a surface that glows with a rich patina.
