Northwest Persian Antique Carpet
9' 3" x 12' 7" (282cm x 384cm) Circa 1875
This is a deeply impactful, nearly one-and-a-half-centuries-old Serapi that offers extremely unique artistry that will be sincerely appreciated by the connoisseur of this 19th-century village style. No less than four levels of rarefied blue are present, from celadon and breathtaking cerulean in the corners to the medallions soft seafoam and the most profound midnight indigo. The field is completely open and expansive, with an abundance of ivory taking a very active role in the design, as if a jewel setting holding the intensely striated brick red reserve. Individual floating ornaments are not connected by vinery, which is a unique, welcome departure. Even the traditional Shah Abbas border compresses and expands freely, imparting dynamic energy to this relentlessly creative artistic statement.
