But the rugs of the village of Ahar went the other direction as in this gorgeous antique Heriz and emphasized the flowing shapes and delicate patterning seen in the vastly more formal city rugs. In this piece, the pattern is more dramatic and the palette more joyfully polychromatic, creating an overall kaleidoscopic effect engaging the eye ever deeper into the design.
