A phalanx of no less than seventy-six ethereal sprouting boteh or 'Seeds of Life' are represented amongst the foliage in this nearly 150-year-old Ferahan rug to enrapturing effect. The density of the field is masterfully juxtaposed with a spacious Prussian blue main border of sublime, undulating vinery with multi-chromatic palmettes connected by extremely delicate tendrils. Its wonderfully subtle 19th century naturally dyed color palette is wide-ranging as azure, cinnabar, rose gold, Olympic blue, shades of olive, and rare Tyrian purple have been applied dexterously as though rendered in pinpoint needlework. In this style known for its extremely supple handle and fine weave, the pile of this unusual piece was originally clipped short to reveal the intricate details of its design and remains in good pile condition.
