Nearly 1-1/2-centuries-old, this Persian Laver Kirman is a deeply engaging pictorial carpet that has been lovingly preserved in wonderful condition. It showcases a quite original, entirely successful departure from more classical renditions of the beloved "Tree of Life" design. Its field presents an extended series of concentric stepped diamond medallions composed entirely of individual, delicately rendered portraits of various tree motifs, each skillfully articulated with tremendous clarity. Be sure not to miss the cut watermelons, complete with knives just below the center point, or the main border's sublime tree and blossom repeat. Its intriguing palette includes a naturally-dyed peach tonality that is seen only in this style's older pieces.
