The complex allover field of this tribal rug is the signature product of the village of Konagkend in the Caucasus mountains. The patterning in this dated (1302 AH or 1884 AD) rug is a combination of rows of interlocking polygons, enigmatic dragon-like devices, hooked crosses, and stylized bird silhouettes. This piece is an extremely finely woven rug, with six mesmerizing accent borders and an elegant cerulean main border that hosts a repeated Kufic motif, one of the oldest rug elements that date back to the 13th century. This tribal rug is a good example of a geometric style that will sit comfortably in a refined setting.
