(Connoisseur-Caliber) (“NEW ACQUISITION")This entirely out-of-the-box Kuba tribal rug presents a singular aesthetic with its use of a tea-washed field and ivory border. The appealing secondary colors are mid tones, a fascinatingly varied palette of quiet hues that is a world away from the saturated zones of color most often seen in Caucasian rugs. An elaborate, evocative allover design made up of unique radiating star-centered motifs float spaciously within the middle of the field. Each present a new color combination including several inspired white outlined variations that continue the emphasis on lightness and delicacy. An ambient background of countless diminutive tribal ornaments with especially expressive gazelle and horse-and-rider devices reveal themselves on close investigation. Expertly balanced, crisp drawn borders evoke age-old tribal patterns of running water, inward turning arrows, and the ashik emblem that provide an effective frame and dynamic counterpoint.
