FERAHAN "GULI FARANG", West Central Persian
4' 2" x 6' 6"
(High-Collectible) (“The Potomac Collection Spring 2019")This extraordinary, quite early carpet is an exceedingly finely crafted representative of one of the most revered Persian weaving traditions, called "Guli Farang" that incorporates a European cabbage rose motif into a fascinating, complex overall design.(The cabbage rose is known in the Eastern World as the source for precious rose oil.) Floating in an astoundingly innovative, allover vinery-formed latticework, each cluster of blossoms and leaves is uniquely and naturalistically crafted, reflecting a commitment to the challenge of weaving a spectrum of garden species. Rendered with such astonishing delicacy, brilliantly conceived, elegant tendrils tempt the viewer to follow them to areas along the edges where the design alters and ends spontaneously, making the rug appear even more spacious and enchanting. Exquisite borders reprise the breathtaking, delicate hues of melon, parchment, celadon, jade and terra cotta. Learn About This Rug Type
