KONAGEKND KUBA, Northeast Caucasian
4' 11" x 7' 7"
Late 19th Century
This charmingly angular, antique Caucasian Konagkend Kuba rug in fabulous, heavier pile condition embraces a variety of strong characteristics that enthusiastically represent its village pedigree. Its prominent use of geometric shapes, its assortment of animal figures distributed throughout the field, and its effective use of strong primary colors, particularly the rich indigo background of the field, all reveal pastoral origins. The repeated, all over pattern is largely comprised of an artfully arranged, split palmette motif with serrated edges and a distinctly zoomorphic appearance, then intermixed with a number of smaller medallions. A nearly two tone primary border, save for the delicate outlines and minute details, frames this piece with the emblematic Kufic motif. Learn About This Rug Type
