This Caucasian tribal rug is testament to the spectacular and unusually nuanced color found in early pieces from this sub-style. The rare, mid-19th century tonal range from teal to shades of bottle green, striated expertly here, creates an astonishingly striking field. A virtuoso casual ordering of motifs extends throughout the field’s spacious display around slightly dissimilar diamond medallions. Two wide borders express a magical polarity—the inner border with its parade of single Wheel of Life symbols, and the magical dancing quality captured in the outer frame’s floating oak-leaf-and-arrows combinations.
