On the shimmering ivory field, the avian design follows the mid-19th century formatting seen in several other published examples, where enlarged, highly symbolized bird form take on a mythical quality, towering over the traditional split palmettes, charming scrub and tree motifs, and various iterations of the Zoastrian “S’ symbol. Its floating field motifs are intriguingly archetypal, drawn with profoundly organic contours.
