("New Arrivals Gallery") An entirely festive, sumptuous artwork, this turn-of-the-20th century Sultanabad carpet offers lustrous, heavy pile and a glorious array of potent naturally dyed colors. Set off from a deep madder red field are overscale, stylized blossom and flowerhead motifs in a great variety of succulent hues including coral, deep rose, honey, walnut, sapphire, forest green, taupe, and eggplant. A diamond center medallion and wide main border based in warm ivory provide further definition and vigor. Note the great sense of movement in the unusually well-spaced design created by the intentional irregular positioning of the blossom and leaf motifs within the diamond-shaped medallion and the four corner spandrels.
