This is among the earliest rugs with undyed camelhair fields, as well as one of the most artistically virtuoso we have had to offer. At over one-and-one-half-centuries-old, this highly artistic Persian village rug presents an octagonal Prussian blue medallion around which a daringly overscale, deconstructed rendition of the Herati curling leaf and blossom pattern appears to dance around the light camel field. The rug’s border suite is as inventive and masterly rendered as its field design. It presents a single auburn-based inner guard stripe featuring a complex meandering vinery motif and two outer guard stripes, all framed by an unadorned outer border of delicately color-shaded, camelhair.
