(High-Collectible) ("New Arrivals Gallery")Woven in southwestern Turkey, this extraordinarily rare, luminous 200-year-old carpet in the single niche or “seccade” design dates back at least the 15th century when Melas rugs were included in Venetian paintings of that Turkish rugs' aesthetic rugs is grounded in the effect colors have on the viewer as the designs reveal smaller expressive impulses than do the chromatic choices used. The Melas color palette is brilliantly expressed here: its signature persimmon and goldenrod tonalities setting the stage for myriad tertiary hues still glowing and vital after two centuries. The main rosette and quadruplet pansy border, said to be inspired by 18th century Caucasian Gendje rugs, encircles the small niched centerpiece holding three gold studded diamonds at its center with possible esoteric meaning. Held in collection for generations, this exemplary piece offers very good condition. Learn About This Rug Type
