("New Arrivals Gallery") This absolutely exquisite example of the Caucasian Lesghi tribe offers crystal-edged clarity of the signature main star motifs and extremely adventurous and skillful border treatment. A magical patina gained over more than 150 years deepens its jewel tones, and an artistic emphasis on ivory illumines the rug in a masterful way. Three remarkably equal-in-size star medallions command the profound impact of this small rug, relying on carnelian, shifting golds, periwinkle, and ivory to rivet the viewer. Around these emblems, rounded blossoms, smaller stars, Zorastrian-linked “s” shapes, birds, and diamonds circulate. The diagonal striped ivory border, triumphantly, is a tour-de-force, extremely rare, as in never-before-seen associated in the Lesghi star rug, which points to the personal challenge the weaver took on very effectively. In excellent condition, this is a piece worthy of collection.
