(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery")For those who are bedazzled by rugs that possess both tremendous intricacy and great whimsy, no weaving style exceeds the best 19th century rugs of the Qashqai tribe. A stellar example is this unusually large (5-1/2 x 9), over 150-year-old piece in fabulous condition. Its field and three ascending medallions are laden with some 200 comical birds and edged by so many diagonal stripes containing minute, painstakingly detailed crosses. Its weavers used the most lustrous wool from their own sheep that was masterfully dyers using plants they gathered themselves. This monumental piece was clearly a labor of great love that exudes tremendous joie de vivre. Learn About This Rug Type
