(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") A novel representative of the renowned Shirvan style, this animated, deeply personal rug was originally created for the tribespeople's own use. Its elemental double-niched madder red medallion contains an array of imaginatively deconstructed forms, compelling the viewer to explore the panoply of magical motifs found just beyond its ivory banded perimeter. ‘Stars of Wisdom’ and cubist rosettes share the deep Prussian blue field with ancient labrys symbols, talismans, and charming crimson amphorae, all guarded by a dramatically crenelated fence of security. Great artistic spontaneity is also evident in its main border with an ingenious pattern of cruciform blossoms and barber-pole ‘Trees of Life’ in a variety of inversions. Its palette is further enhanced by vivid cerulean, teal, sage, and shades of precious saffron found throughout. This one-in-the-world piece has been lovingly restored, making it ideal for a less-trafficked space. Learn About This Rug Type
