In a more seldom encountered permutation of the Shirvan style, this incredibly balanced, finely knotted tribal rug offers its signature field design--a prominent, elongated hexagon medallion nesting inside a pointed hexagonal reserve, while two irregularly rendered serrated rectangles act as pendants at the top and bottom of the crimson centerpiece. Note a pair of entirely charming striped steeds corralled in the bottom device. Juxtaposed with bright ivory, deeply saturated jewel tones of vivid carnelian, rich sapphire, and shimmering shades of gold establish an engaging contrast of colors. Eschewing the ‘leaf and calyx’ or ‘interlock’ pattern more typical for this style, the main border ingeniously offsets the overall blossom theme of this spirited rug that, like virtually all of the Australian Cache rugs, is in outstanding condition.
