(High-Collectible)
("Best-of-its-Type Sold in 2020”) (High-Collectible) Presaging what would become a popular, oft-woven rug style a half-century later, this deeply enrapturing piece is the result of a much earlier, more relaxed, finer and more whimsical aesthetic. The Karachov design is particular, involving a square with labor-intensive tile like filling supporting a major octagon and flanked top and bottom by rectangles containing stars. The obvious enjoyment of replicating this design is quite evident in this rendition. Note the broad mix of ancient symbols that occupy the vertical rows to each side of the majestic medallion, as well as endless knots, shepherd's hooks and ram’s horns floated throughout. The primary color palette is amazingly diffuse, with dozens of shades of color appear. This is one of the most profound, eloquent Karachovs we have ever offered; its every inch alive with expression, humor, awe, and dignity.
