(Connoisseur-Caliber)
("New Arrivals Gallery") The unusually crisp rendering of its enigmatic design and its clarity of color greatly enhance the allure of this very seldom-found Cloudband Kazak rug. In bottle green and dandelion yellow, daringly asymmetrical placement of two and one half grand medallions are presented on a glowing crimson field. Each mandala holds pairs of cloudbands mimicking minimalist dragons, scaled to undulate harmoniously in their shared spaces. Manifesting an earthly synergy with the elemental forces in the medallions are a devoted menagerie of gazelles, fanciful birds and even a roaring ivory lion at lower left. The “barber-pole” filler, often seen in high-mountain Caucasian rugs, is used with great ingenuity at the center of each medallion, decorating the bodies of the four-legged characters, and, in the main border’s double helix vine. The ambiance of this memorable piece is at once casual and stately and relaxed.
