Groundbreaking abrash and an entirely original composition achieve an astonishingly vital aesthetic in this large room-size geometric carpet- a truly one-of-a-kind departure from the classical Serapi style! Within an elongated central reserve, an organic asymmetrical medallion is animated by broad, painterly bands of skillful striation of rarely seen hues while two highly creative, freely rendered garlands encircle the ivory reserve in which it floats. Generously proportioned linked spandrels contain large-scale abstracted vinery, exemplifying the artistic spontaneity for which early Serapis are so prized. A particularly wide color palette bejewels the immersive sunset red spectrum that dominates this art rug, including, aubergine, indigo, sand, azure, celadon, khaki, leaf green, burnished gold, and periwinkle. This 160-year-old extravaganza comes to us in extraordinarily heavier pile condition.
