SERAPI, Northwest Persian
9' 4" x 14' 4" Late 19th Century Price: $43,000
(High-Decorative)
A superbly balanced blossom medallion stands as a compelling central focus in this riveting antique Serapi. Enlivened by time-softened hues, its symmetrical 8-petalled form set against an ivory base is filled with a spontaneous arrangement of abstracted blossoms. The spacious Venetian red field is home to a sinuous collection of stylized, interlocking vines. These narrow tendrils traverse the spaciously adorned ground that silhouettes each delightful leaf and blossom. A tertiary palette offers caramel, azure, celadon, denim, sage green, and rose quartz that appear in splendidly diverse combinations throughout the field and the rosette and oak leaf border. Wondrous heavier pile condition further enhances its great appeal.
