(High-Collectible) ("Best-of-its-Type Sold in 2020”) The Qashqai people possess a long history and cultural richness gained both through struggle and empyrean inspiration. These two elements give their antique rugs a palpable sense of spontaneity and aliveness. Early Qashqai rugs of this magnitude are virtually never found in kelege sizes, and the painstaking effort and ambition needed to achieve this masterpiece is humbling. Its nuanced detailing exemplifies the tremendous artistic innovation of expert nomadic weavers, who also wove into the rug an assortment of life-affirming boteh seeds, sacred tasseled talismans, and other magical symbols archived in the tribal collective consciousness from time immemorial. With its centerpiece of burnished Tuscany gold on a inky blue backdrop, the elaborate triple medallion configuration presents uniquely stylized ‘tamgas’ or emblems of their particular tribe. This tour-de-force carpet was probably woven for a khan. Learn About This Rug Type
