This dazzling, unusually colorful rug from the Kuba province known as Chi Chi conveys ebullient joy comfortably contained by the harmonious order of its traditional design. Crystal clear renditions of richly hued latch-hooked figures in horizontal rows contain tiny ‘stars of wisdom’ separated by a parallel procession of pinwheels, with a variety of ancillary motifs tucked among the elemental symbology. This rug's potently vivid, wide chromatic range is immediately apparent, indicating a much broader knowledge of dye recipes than was typical and runs the gamut from dark walnut, lagoon blue and bright scarlet to fern green and goldenrod. This distinctive rendition of the beloved Chi Chi style with its heavier pile and extremely silky wool is a jewel that is suitable many decades of floor use.
